Like Melbourne, Adelaide developed during the cast iron era
Although there is not the quantity of ornamental iron in Adelaide as found in Melbourne there are however some interesting variations of usage in Adelaide, and a wealth of rich iron ornamentation remains today.
As in other parts of Australia, Adelaide Hotels have been a wonderful preserver of cast iron ornamentation, with some remarkable examples remaining today.
Adelaide lacework and balustrade had the last known registration in February 1885,however few designs were registered, the majority of registrations were for gates and fences.
